PRIMARY ELECTION - MAY 19, 2026 - IMPORTANT DATES:

Sept. 11th - First Day to File Declaration of Candidacy for Primary Election 

Feb. 27th - Last Day for County, City or District Governing Body to File with Local Elections Official

  •  Ballot title for publication of notice or  referral text for drafting of ballot title

March 3rd - Last Day to File for Incumbent

March 10th - Last Day to File May Election

March 13th - Last Day to Withdraw Candidate Filing

March 19th - Last Day for Local Governing Body to File with County Elections Official

April 4th - Last Day to mail Military/Overseas ballots

April 20th - Last Day to mail Out of State ballots

April 28th - Last Day to register to vote or change party affiliation.

April 29th - First Day to mail ballots to voters

May 12th - Last Day to conduct public certification test of vote tally system, 10:00am/Jefferson County Admin./66 SE D St.

May 14th - Last Day absentee or replacement ballots are required to be mailed to voters.

May 19th - ELECTION DAY  -  Clerk's office will be opened from 7am - 8pm / Unofficial results will be published as close as possible to 8:00pm.

May 26th - Last Day to received postmarked ballots by mail.

May 27th - Ballots received by May 26th will be processed at 9:00 am.  Counting will take place in the County Clerk's office.  The public is welcome to observe.

June 3rd - Information identifying voters with ballots challenged form missing or non-matching signatures are available for public inspection

June 9th - Last Day to resolve ballot challenges.

June 11th - Certification of Ballot Tally Machine 9:00am in the Clerk's Office - The public is welcomed.

June 15th - Last day to prepare and deliver abstracts to appropriate elections officials.

July ___ - Last day for individuals nominated or elected by writ-in to file acceptance forms.

July ___th - Last day for elections official deliver a certificate of nomination or election to individuals who filed write-in acceptance forms.

HB 3291 - Postmark Bill - Postmarks DO Count: the ballot must have a postal indicator showing that the ballot was mailed not later than Election Day and received within 7 days at the County Clerk's Office. The most expedient method is to use any Official Ballot Drop Box.
