State and Federal Benefits by Rating for Disabled Veterans

All applications require your benefit summary letter attached to verify your disability rating

You can obtain a benefit summary letter by:

  • Calling the Federal VA at 1-800-827-1000. When prompted state “benefit summary letter” and request the letter be faxed and/or mailed directly to you. The benefit summary letter is generated the same day you call and is usually received in the mail within 10 days.
  • Printing from the web. Visit VA.gov
    • Scroll down to records then download your benefit letter.

  • Oregon Property Tax Exemption (must have DD214 and Benefit Summary Letter dated within 6 months). Apply at the Tax Assessor’s office inside the County Annex Building at 66 SE D Street in Madras.  Oregon Property Tax Exemption

  • Concurrent receipt of military retired pay DFAS
  • VA Healthcare – No co-pays or prescription costs
  • Wounded Warrior Parking Permit
    • Note: Must qualify for an Individual permit; a service-connected disability alone is insufficient.
    • Physician must complete and sign Certificate of Disability section of the application.
    • In addition to the Wounded Warrior Application  a benefit summary letter from the VA and evidence of discharge status is required. 

70% - 90%  All of the above and:

100%  All of the above and:

  • Dependents may be eligible for full tuition waiver at any Oregon public university or community college (contact the college in question and inquire as to eligibility and possible benefits)
  • Dependent Benefits (MUST be Permanent and Total)
